Viking Sports Groups

Viking has always been a strong sports town.  We have groups for Curling, Dance, Figure Skating, Hockey, Golf, Gymkhana, Gymnastics, Baseball, Soccer and outdoor sports. Please get active and participate in a healty sport!

CURLING CLUB

The Curling club has a men’s, ladies’, and mixed league that are always welcoming new members. The season generally runs from mid October to the end of March. The club holds several Bonspiels throughout the year, such as Local Mixed, Turkey Curl, Farmers, Open Mixed, Ladies, Men and the famous Viking Fridge Spiel.     

VIKING DANCE CLUB

To promote awareness and appreciation of dance by offering classes of jazz, tap, and ballet to children ranging in age from four and up.         

VIKING FIGURE SKATING CLUB

Professional instruction is provided by qualified teachers. Starting with the Can Skate program and working their way into either the Recreational Program or the Test Program. Those who wish to compete in singles, pairs or ice dance can move from the Test into the Competitive program. Ages 4 to 17 are welcome. Registration occurs in October, with a scheduled season from November to the end of March. Registered with the Canadian Figure Skating Association – Skaters are able to test according to CFSA standards and receive certificates that enable them to teach younger children. Private lessons available from professional coaches.     

26’ERS HOCKEY CLUB

Anyone from the age of 18 and up are invited to play during the scheduled season which runs from November to March.

VIKING GOLF AND COUNTY CLUB

The Viking Golf Course, located on the east side of town is a challenging Par 36, nine holes, complete with water hazards and sand traps. The course, driving range, putting green and clubhouse are open from 8:30 a.m. till dusk, May 1 to October 15. The upstairs of the Multi-plex is the hub of the activity as green fees, rental carts and driving range balls can be obtained there. The clubhouse has food and beverages for sale as well as the pro-shop selling balls, clubs, tees and golf shirts and hats.     

VIKING GYMKHANA CLUB

The Club involves anyone from the ages of 4 to 80 in events prearranged using horses and riders. It organizes eight gymkhana meets each season between May 15 and August 31. Scheduled events such as barrel racing, pole bending, stake race, flag picking and keyhole as well as novelty events make for a competitive as well as fun day for young and old – usually winding up with a wiener roast. Points are collected throughout the year for year end awards and trail ride.     

VIKING GYMNASTICS CLUB

Gymnastics lessons are taught Friday evenings at the Viking School. Sessions run September to March. We are AGF registered.         

VIKING MINOR BALL

The goal of the organization is to ensure that the children of the community have the chance to participate in an organized league in a competitive spirit but still have fun. T-Ball is designed for the beginner and is an excellent introduction to ball. The boys teams are registered with Baseball Alberta and play in an arranged league. The girls teams are registered with Alberta Amateur Softball Association and also play in a league. The season usually commences the first week in May and continues until the end of June.     

VIKING MINOR HOCKEY
Check us out on our website: www.vikingminorhockey.com This group caters to boys and girls under 18 years of age. There is a registration fee. The season starts mid October and ends at the end of March. A long season with enjoyment for the whole family. Girls Hockey: 8 years old and under, play on the boys team. 9 – 12 years old, and 13 – 16 years old, have their own teams.

VIKING MINOR SOCCER LEAGUE
Darren or Zoe Anderson 336-2590 Viking, AB T0B 4N0 Soccer for boys and girls between the ages of 4 – 17. Registration takes place in the spring. Registration fee is due in the spring. Referees as well as coaches are needed. Play takes place on the soccer field on the east side of town.

VIKING SPORTS & WILDLIFE SOCIETY
Del Kirchmayer, Contact 336-2620 Viking, AB T0B 4N0 A community based, non-profit organization affiliated with the Alberta Fish & Game Association. Promotes sportsmanship and ethical conduct in outdoor activities. Two projects completed include a trout pond on Viking’s outskirt, and a clubhouse/recreation area. Hunter training courses are offered and family participation is encouraged.
